Short-term Scholarship Programmes in North Rhine-Westphalia for students from Israel, the Palestinian territories and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

In May 2004, North Rhine-Westphalia signed an agreement with the State of Israel to increase bilateral cooperation in science, research and technology transfer. As part of this agreement, a short-term scholarship programme was set up for highly qualified Israeli students to allow them to spend up to three months in universities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Aim of the programme:
In order to build and strengthen ties between universities in Israel and in North Rhine-Westphalia and to create scientific partnerships, the purpose of the programme is that students get to know the research landscape and higher education system in North Rhine-Westphalia during their stay here. Furthermore, individual universities can get to know the next generation of excellent Israeli scientists and attract them to their institutions for postgraduate courses.

Employment opportunities and assistance:
Students will have the opportunity to conduct research relevant to their Bachelor or Masters degrees (e.g. measurements, model calculations, archive studies, demoscopic studies) at university research institutions. For this purpose, the student's travel, accommodation and insurance costs will be covered, including living costs and a ticket for regional transport.

Responsibility for the project:
Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf; Project Manager: Dr. Anne Gellert

The North Rhine-Westphalian Government is also offering similar programme scholarships for highly qualified students from the Palestinian territories (since 2007) and from Jordan (since 2010) that are likewise organised by the Heinrich-Heine University as the responsible body. The relevant informational documents are available here, too.
